The Pinnacle of Political Thought

An Introduction to this Blog..

A few months ago I launched a Facebook Page called Defend the Constitution. In the first couple months I actively maintained the page, and it grew rapidly to 3000 fans. Unfortunately due to personal reasons, I've had less time over the past couple months, yet growth has continued and the page now boasts nearly 8000 fans.

For me, the most surprising factor in its growth is the tremendous diversity and passion of the page's fans. They come from all over the United States (and some even from abroad!), and more impressively from all over the political spectrum. Through my interactions with the fans, I've been exposed to various constitutional interpretations and the political currents that underly them.

There have been principled arguments about, for example, the overseas role of the US military, the role of government in alleviating distress, the philosophical basis of our ideals and the relationship between the States & our Federal government. Above all, I have noticed that if there is a glue that connects the many different arguments I've come across, it is the very American idea that individual human beings ought to be free to determine and pursue their own vision of happiness.

I've decided to start this blog to provide a more serious companion to the Defend the Constitution Facebook Page. In the spirit of the all-important First Amendment, all political opinions are welcome here; even (and perhaps especially) minority views. So don't feel afraid to comment if you disagree with a post or with the consensus view. If you would like to submit a guest post, just send an email to constitution.x@gmail.com. I will try to post every article that comes in (regardless of it's political orientation), though if the volume of emails is very high I might have to apply some quality control.

I'm new to blogging, and I'm an engineer not a constitutional scholar. My own meager understanding of the Constitution has come through self-education and fiery arguments with my friends and (ideological) enemies. More than anything, I am interested in the ideas that underpin our freedom, ideas conceived many years ago yet remain, unquestionably, the pinnacle of human political thought.

I hope that this blog, as with the Facebook Page, can contribute in a small way to understanding, preserving and promoting these ideas to the general public. So thanks for checking us out, and feel free to spread the word!
